Jim Williams Obituary

WILLIAMS,

Ocala - Jim Williams passed away on Friday, December l6, 2016. He was born June 17th, 1926 to Cecil & Alleyne Williams of Ocala. He married Louise Oxner of Ocklawaha on his 18th birthday in 1944 and was a loving father to three children, Kerry (deceased), Laura & Jim. He was also the grandfather of Sara Slider (Kerrl ), Dave Amold, Anna Roth & Drake Arnold (Laura & David Arnold), Leena Williams, Diana Williams-Torres, Hunter Williams & Van Williams (Jim & Diana). The great grandfather of Adeline & Wade Roth. Uncle of Tom Oxner and Tannye
Johnson and great uncle of Asa, Alex and Abe Oxner and Ernie and Pearl Johnson.
A lifelong Ocalan, he was involved in a number of businesses including limestone mining, beef cattle and citrus groves. In 1968, he got into politics, becoming a State Senator & serving for six years. He then was elected Lieutenant Governor where he headed the Department of Administration under Governor Reuben Askew. President Jimmy Carter appointed him Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he served for four years in Washington D.C.
Throughout his long business and political careers, he always found time to help with local community projects - Chairman of the Munroe Regional Hospital Board of Directors, President of Ocala Jaycees, fundraiser for United Way, YMCA, Salvation Army & many more organizations. That's only a fraction of the long list of worthy causes he has supported with his time and talents.
