DAUTEN, ARTHUR, 97
Ocala - Mr. Arthur Dauten, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, died on May 26, 2011 at the age of 97. Arthur was born in Tottenham, England on August 20, 1913, then lived in Lubeck, Germany for a short period until he and his family immigrated to the United States when Arthur was 12 years of age. Arthur lived much of his working life in upstate NY and retired from teaching and moved to Ocala in 1976. Arthur graduated from Boston University's College of Music in 1938. Later, after serving in WWII, he received his Masters from Syracuse University. He also attended Carnegie Tech where he received fine training in Theatre. Arthur married Eleanor Greenizen, in 1944. Their first daughter, Pamela was born in 1946 and twelve years later came their second child, Dorothy. Arthur was a trained musician blessed with a beautiful voice; he sang at many weddings of friends and family over the years and was an exceptional teacher. During his retirement years in Ocala he especially enjoyed the talents of the Ocala Civic Theatre and was an avid supporter of the Central Florida (Ocala) Symphony. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor Dauten in 1991; as well as his parents; Ludwig and Annie (North) Dauten, sister, Emily, and brother, Frederick. He is survived by his two daughters: Pamela Turnley (W. Gary) and Dorothy Pohleven both of Ocala, Florida; as well as 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and several nephews and nieces. A Memorial Service, in honor of Arthur's life, will take place on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Coventry Episcopal Church, 20 SW 87th Place, (Corner of CR 475 & 312) Ocala, FL 34476 with Reverend Stephen Dass Officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Arthur's name to Hospice of Marion County or Coventry Episcopal Church.
