Ocala - Dorothy Ann Phipps, 85, Ocala, FL passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Legacy House of Ocala. Dorothy was born on August 31, 1927 in Annapolis, Maryland, daughter of William Frederick Housley and Lillian Mary Fischer Housley Clark.
She was an operator and directory assistant with C&P Telephone Company of Annapolis, MD until retirement. Dorothy and her late husband of 64 years James L. Phipps, Sr moved to Oak Run, Ocala, FL in 1987. Mr. Phipps passed away in March, 2009. Dorothy enjoyed spending her free time with family and friends and her dog. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, crocheting, doing word searches and going to water aerobics. She also enjoyed hosting many Naval Academy Pistol Team members.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers William, Richard and Harold Housley, sisters Adele Hendricks and Marion Haller, grandson SGT. Phillip W. Feeser III. and son-in-law Elwayne Gragg.
Dorothy is survived by her children James L., Jr and his wife Syntha Phipps of Ocala, Connie and Gary VanRyzin of Ocala, John and Donna Phipps of Stevensville, MD and Susan Gragg of Ocala, nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and her sister, Lillian Peacock of Annapolis, MD.
A visitation will be held in the TimberRidge Chapel of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala on Monday, July 15th from 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., at which time the funeral service will take place. Both she and her husband will be placed in a columbarium niche at Florida National Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be left at
