Blanchard, Elizabeth Jan Perry, 68
Elizabeth Jan Perry Blanchard, 68, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 at home. Jan was born February 1, 1943 to Elizabeth Waters Perry and H. Charlton Perry. She actively and aggressively survived metastatic breast cancer for 23 years and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Jan was born in Ocala, Florida and grew up on a farm. She had a great love of animals, especially horses and family pets. Jan was a graduate of Ocala High School where she was a starting guard on the Girls' Basketball Team and maintained a lifelong friendship with her team members and coach. She graduated from of The University of Florida with a degree in Speech Pathology. Jan married Robert Charles "Bob" Blanchard, also an Ocala High School and University of Florida graduate. Their careers took them to Ft. Lewis, WA; Gainesville, FL; Starkville, MS; Boca Raton, FL; Alpharetta, GA; Brussels, Begium; and Raleigh, NC. Jan has served as a speech therapist in public schools, PTA president, and legal, medical and school secretaries, but mostly she was a devoted mother to her children. She loved her family very much and made deep and lasting friendships everywhere life took her. Surviving are her husband Robert Charles "Bob" Blanchard of Holly Springs, NC; son Walker Perry Blanchard of Wake Forest, NC; daughter Martha Brooke Carr, son-in-law John Carr, granddaughter Kaycee Marie Carr of Holly Springs, NC; mother Elizabeth Perry Moody of Belleview, FL; sister Dr. M. Charleen Yarborough and brother-in law Dr. James H. "Buddy" Yarborough of Belleview, FL; brother Hugh Charlton Perry and sister-in-law Peggy Perry of Austin, TX; "adopted" sister Virginia Sigman of Ocala; step-sister Virginia "Jenny" Moody Gwaltney of Belleview; sister-in-law Anita Blanchard Brewer of Sevierville, TN; brothers-in-law Joe Blanchard, Jr. of Lakeland, FL and Gary Blanchard of Fruitland Park, FL; nephew Spencer Yarborough of Melbourne, FL; niece Leigh Yarborough McCullough of Buford, GA; nephews Charlton and Roger Perry of Austin, TX.; and her beloved dog Lily. She was predeceased by her father H. Charlton Perry of Ocala, FL and step-father Bruce R. Moody of Belleview, FL. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Yoffe, Nurse Practitioner Allison Casey and the entire staff of Cancer Centers of North Carolina for their caring and thoughtful treatment and support throughout Jan's journey. The family also thanks Hospice of Wake County for the care and comfort they provided in Jan's last days. In Florida, there will be a graveside ceremony at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, 5740 South Pine Ave, Ocala on Friday, June 10, 2011, at 10 a.m. A celebration of her life will be held at The Elks Lodge, 702 Northeast 25th Avenue, Ocala, the same day at 12 noon. In North Carolina, a celebration of her life will be scheduled in Holly Springs, NC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you would like, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Jan's name. I consider myself very lucky to have known Jan, not only a a friend but a cousin. Her positive attitude, smile, and always being able to see the bright side of any situation has made me a much better person. Seem like Jan could read your heart, I will miss her and very honored she was part of my life's journey.
