Helen Walker Obituary

WALKER,
HELEN SHASHY, 84
Ocala - Helen Shashy Walker of Ocala, Florida made her final life's journey and is now home with the Lord Jesus. She passed peacefully from this life to the next on August 5, 2010, surrounded by family and under the loving care of Hospice of Marion County. Helen was born on August 8, 1925 in Jacksonville, Florida to Abdo and Mary Shashy. She is survived by her brother, Ronald G. Shashy and her children, Ann Walker Stermer (Robert), David B. Walker Sr. (Catherine), Berry J. Walker (Janice), K. Scott Walker (Peggy), and Ronald Barefield (Linda). She had 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dorothy Barefield, and her brothers, Thomas and Lawrence Shashy. A longtime resident of Ocala, Helen especially enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She made many close friends over the years and will be greatly missed by her bridge buddies, the Friday Lunch Bunch, her church family at Living Hope Community Church, and her close friend of many years, Rosemary Stermer. Anyone who knew her will know she was a woman of faith. She would tell you that her life really began at age 72, because it was then that she gave her life to Jesus. Even In the final weeks preceding her death, she could be heard from the bedroom giving thanks and praise to her Savior. What a privilege and blessing it was to be a witness to such faith.

Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Living Hope Community Church, 2111 NE 36th Ave. Ocala, FL. In Lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice of Marion County Children's Bereavement Services or to Living Hope Community Church's family center building fund. Helen was our neighbor for 13 years at Crestwood Patio Homes.
Her bright smile made my day on the lucky days I was able to run into her.

Helen was one of the finest southern ladies you could ever meet. She loved bridge - never would let George forget the time he did not lead the deuce of hearts.
