Gainesville - John M. Curtis, Sr., 74, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at his home in Gainesville, FL, after fighting a long illness.
Mr. Curtis was born in Calhoun, Georgia, on April 7, 1939, to the late Vernon and Lois Curtis. He served in the U.S. Navy and later attended the University of Florida earning a Bachelor's in Economics and Master's Degree in Real Estate, which was the basis for his career as a Real Estate Developer. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandkids, saltwater fishing, hunting, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, friend, and to those who knew him well - Big Daddy!
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail Curtis; a daughter Tashia C. Hale (Jeff); two sons John M. Curtis, Jr. (Cindy) and Ryan C. Curtis, Sr. (Stacey); one brother James Curtis (Marta) of St. Augustine; and is survived by nine grandchildren, Tyler Hale, Kendal Hale, Gwendolyn Hale, Sophia Hale, Gabriella Hale, Amelia Curtis, Ryan C. Curtis, Jr., Julia Curtis, and Abigail Curtis.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church, 10000 West Newberry Rd. (SR 26), Gainesville FL 32606 with Rev. Doug White and Rev. Scott Stanland officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Central. The family will receive friends Friday, October 11, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 N.W. 143rd Street, Jonesville, FL 32669.
