Ocala - Peter Walfred Johnson, 86, of Ocala, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2012, in Ocala, Fla. Peter was born to the late John P. and Olga (Levin) Johnson on February 16, 1926, in Queens, N.Y. He was the youngest of five brothers. Peter served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. Following the war, Peter earned a Bachelor's Degree from Brown University and a Master's Degree from New York University. He worked in both the U.S. Government Services and New York State Government Services. He retired to Ocala in 1997. He will be remembered as a genuine Christian and a man well liked for his quick smile and pleasant demeanor. He was a member of the Ocala West United Methodist Church. Peter is survived by 15 nieces and nephews, including Meredith Morea of Ocala and Donald Johnson of Jacksonville, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Peter also leaves his sister-in-law, Rosemary Johnson of New Jersey. A visitation will be held at the TimberRidge Chapel of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th St. Ocala, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by the funeral service there on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Alan Jefferson officiating. Committal services will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla., with the Angela Santos VFW Post # 4781 Honor Guard officiating.
