Ocala - Marian Davis Calcagni, 86, of Ocala, Florida died peacefully Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Legacy House following a brief illness.
She was the widow of Frank R. Calcagni. Born on August 5, 1927 in Barre, Vermont, Calcagni was the daughter of the Hon. Deane Chandler Davis, former Governor of Vermont and Corrine Eastman Davis. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School (Barre, VT) and Boston University. A devoted homemaker and accomplished pianist, Calcagni shared her joy of music with young people over many years as piano teacher.
With her husband of 58 years, she relocated from Vermont to Ocala to assume ownership of the Little Professor Bookstore. Calcagni enthusiastically assisted all who needed her help, especially those who were ill or less fortunate. Always ready with a warm smile and kind heart, she frequently played the piano and sang for residents at nursing and memory-care facilities near her home at Oak Run. And as an avid bridge player, she taught many of her friends the finer nuances of the game. She will be missed dearly by her friends in Florida and across the country.
Calcagni is survived by her brother Thomas Davis and sister-in-law, Delores Davis; her son, Thomas Frank Calcagni and his wife Elizabeth; her sister and brother-in-law, Clifford and Loretta Mattoon; and three grandchildren, Gretchen, Deane and Thomas Edward Calcagni. She also is survived by four step-grandchildren, Gerald Mellen, Christopher Mellen, Lisa Cappucci Goyer and Gina Cappucci, 12 nieces and nephews and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 10:00 am, Friday, April 11 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Timberridge Chapel, 9695 SW 110 St, Ocala, Florida with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County, Inc., P.O. Box 4860, Ocala, FL, 34478-4860.
