Crystal River - Mrs. Cecelia Thompson Bledsoe, 75, of Crystal River, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014, in Hudson, FL.
A native of Winston-Salem, NC, she moved to Florida in 1959, and settled in Ocala in 1962. Mrs. Bledsoe taught math for the Marion County School System at Ocala/Forest High, Lake Weir High, and North Marion High Schools. She also taught middle school for the Dept. of Defense in Germany for 6 years.
She was preceded in death in 1991 by her husband Richard Bledsoe, who coached at Osceola Middle School for many years.
Mrs. Bledsoe earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, and her Master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She was well known as a Gator Booster "GO GATORS!" In addition to her many years teaching, she also worked as a real estate agent for several years, before finally retiring to Crystal River in 2001. She belonged to the Elks, the Moose, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. While living in Ocala, she belonged to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, and later became a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, both in Ocala.
Survivors include her sons Craig, Richard, and Barry Bledsoe, her daughter Beverly Beach, her mother Delphine F. Thompson, her sisters Beverly Scott and Penny Gettings, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father W. E. Thompson, Jr. in 1980.
Visitation for Mrs. Bledsoe will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 7, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Park.

I attended the University of Southern Mississippi with Cecelia. She lived across the hall from me in the dorm. Cecelia was so much fun, and she was a good friend to me when I was so far away from home. I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
