HICKS, LOUISE K., 77
Wilmington, NC - Louise K. Hicks, 77, of Wilmington, NC died on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
She was born on August 19, 1936 in Williamsport, PA, the daughter of the late Paul D. and Minnie Tanner Werner. Also remembered is her husband, Richard Charles Hicks and a brother, Delmar Werner, both of who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hicks graduated from Muncy High School in 1954 and Geisinger Nursing School in 1957. She lived in South Glens Falls, NY from 1966-1995 and was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd where she served on the Alter Guild and Women's Guild. She worked as an RN at Glens Falls Hospital from 1967 to 1995 in CCU, ICU, Head Nurse of 4 Central, before retiring as a Nurse Manager.
Upon retiring in 1995 to Ocala, FL, she became a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving on the Alter Guild and being active in the Parish Nurses and Crafty Ladies. Louise enjoyed bridge, water aerobics, bocce ball and many more activities at Ocala Palms. In 2012 she moved to Plantation Village in Wilmington, NC and became a member of the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation.
Throughout her courageous struggle with ALS, Louise stayed true to her Christian faith and was inspirational to all who knew her. She will be remembered by family and friends as a devoted wife, mother, nurse and Christian.
Surviving is her daughter, Kathy Lynne Stephens and husband Richard Teachey of Wilmington, NC; three sons, Mark Alan Hicks and wife Carmella of Rensselaer, NY, Michael David Hicks of Lewisville, ID, and William Daniel Hicks and fiancée Mary Schemp of Gansevoort, NY; three grandchildren, Nathan Daniel Hicks, Timothy Paul Hicks and Whitty Gene Stephens; one great-grandson, Jacob Daniel Hicks; and a sister, Bettie Fairchild of Watsontown, PA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ocala, FL. The family will receive friends Wednesday beginning at 9:00 am at the church. Interment will follow in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
The family would like to thank all Louise's friends and family for their continued prayers and letters. We would especially like to thank Mr. Ricky Lee, her private caregiver, friend and companion. Ricky was dedicated to Louise through the end.
