Ocala - Madeline L. Pol, was called home on Friday, July 4, 2014. She was born on February 20, 1913 in Rochester, NY, daughter to the late George J. and Henrietta (Burkard) Ritter. After graduating from the University of Rochester School of Nursing she served in the U.S. Army Corp of Nurses as a lieutenant during WWII.
She then moved to California and received a Master's Degree in Nursing, joined the faculty at Stanford Hospital School of Nursing, and later other nursing programs. In 1976 along with her husband Al, they moved to Ocala, FL. Madeline was a member at St. Jude Catholic Community, Ocala where she served in many capacities, including teaching confirmation classes for 25 years; chairperson of the Parish Council, the Bereavement Committee, the Welcoming Committee and was a Eucharistic Minister.
She began the hospital visitation service. She was an avid gardener and loved walking with her dog Chico. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Al, sister and brother. Madeline is survived by her companion of 30 years, Bob Sturtevant of Ocala; brother Edmund of Rochester, NY; godchild Margie Cohea of CA and numerous close friends.
The Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 10:30AM at St. Jude's Catholic Community Church, Marion Oaks. Arrangements are under the care of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala, FL 34481.
