Be the first to share your memories or express your condolences in the Guest Book for Judy F. Ramey.
Ocala - Judy F. Ramey, 64, of Ocala, FL went to be with the angels on July 17, 2014.
She is predeceased by her father, Vass Ramey; mother, Patsy Lloyd; and brother, Ben Ramey. Judy initially resided in Derby, Virginia until the age of nine, when her father died in a coal mining accident. Then her family moved to Florida where they finally settled in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
Judy graduated from Cocoa Beach High School, and through hard work and sheer determination, worked her way up the corporate ladder in various architectural firms. One of her many accomplishments was to become in charge of the accounting department at the prestigious architectural firm headed by David Childs in Washington, D.C. Judy's story was an inspiration, showing that a coal miner's daughter could rise out of poverty and build a good life for herself and her family.
Judy often called herself a gypsy because she loved to travel. All she needed to hear was "Road Trip" and she would be packed and ready to go. She drove cross-country several times, always amazed at how beautiful our country is. She lived and worked in Virginia most of her adult life, but she also resided in Eugene, OR; Raleigh, NC; and Stratford, CT before retiring to the Summerglen community in Ocala, FL in 2012. It was there that she finally felt she had a home base to return to after her trips, so she named her home, "Journey's End".
Everyone who met Judy was touched by her caring and compassionate ways. Judy loved life and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. She is survived by her spouse, Kathleen (Kim) McCarthy of Ocala, FL; her son Chad Anderson, his wife Cory, and her grandchildren Wynden and Haila of Woodbridge, VA; her daughter Lori Anderson and grandchild Emma Anderson-Schroeder of Seattle, WA; and her sister Lisa Ramey of Blacksburg, SC.
Contributions can be made in her memory to Hospice of Marion County, P.O. Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478. Memorial services will take place on Merritt Island, FL at a later date.
