Winston passed from this life on Friday, July 30th 2010 while en route to Hospice Legacy House, after a brief battle with cancer. His family was at his side as he took his final journey. Winston was born in Live Oak, Florida on January 17, 1937; the eldest son of Loiselle and Winford Hall, both who preceded him in death. He moved to Ocala with his family in the mid 1940's. He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Patty Hall; his sons, Todd Hall and his wife Sheri of Ocala, Greg Hall of Tampa; sister Marjorie Martin of Ocala and brother Bill (Irman) Hall and his wife Marie of Dunnellon. He has three grandsons, Anthony, Gregory, and Johnathon Hall, all of Tampa; four step-granddaughters, Lakisha Carpenter, Brandy, Chandra and Chrissy Miller all of Ocala; two nieces, Candy Hall White and her husband Andrew of Knoxville, TN and Debbie Martin Cole and her husband Jason of Crestview, FL and several great nephews, a great niece and a great grandson. Winston lived and worked most of his life engaging in activities that were of great interest to him. As a young man, he started out photographing tourists on glass bottom boats at Silver Springs. He later managed Barron's Slack Bar at Pine Street Shopping Center for more than ten years and was known to some as "The Baron." He worked so closely with his seamstress, Doris, that he learned to do alterations himself. When Barron's closed their stores, he ventured out to open his own clothing store, The Zodiac. There he continued to use talents gained from his experience, adding new skills in the knowledge of jewelry and jewelry repair. Times became difficult in the 1970's, malls opened, therefore he left this business after several years. Then on not much more than a shoestring, he opened his own jewelry store, Winston Hall Jewelers. He finally settled at Gaitway Plaza, where he completed his career at age 72 as one of Ocala's finest custom jewelers. Throughout his careers, he met many wonderful people who were not just customers, but special friends. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed a shared interest in photography, especially wildlife photography in his own back yard and surrounding nature parks. New friends were made, who saw him through his last days. Winston enjoyed gardening, carpentry and spending time with Archie, the beloved family border collie. Winston's greatest love, however, was for his family. During his final days at the hospital, he fought a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side, graciously thanking everyone who helped him throughout this struggle. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at ORMC who were attentive and caring throughout Winston's last days. Memorial Services will be held at Belleview Church of God on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 am. A luncheon following the services will be provided on church grounds.
