Hubert G. Dossey, Sr, 94, Ocala died peacefully at the New Horizon Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, February 5, 2011. He had been a resident there for the past year. Hubert was born in Plant City, Florida in 1916. He moved to Ocala in the early 1930s. Hubert worked for the Standard Oil Company as owner/operator, and owned other businesses in Ocala for over 60 years. Hubert was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala. He served as a Deacon and was on many committees. Hubert proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Philippines. He married Mary Elizabeth Hinton in 1940. They were married for 55 years before Mary preceded Hubert in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father, the late Irby Dossey and David Matthew Dossey. Hubert is survived by two children, Mary Gay Clark of Atlanta and Hubert Dossey, Jr. of Ocala; five grand children, Darrell Dossey, Deitra Dossey, and Denene Dossey, Michelle Jacoby, and Melissa Lewin; four Great Grand children, Josie Lewin, David Dossey, Macey Lewin, and Delaney Wright; four sisters, Annie Lou Brown, Melba Noble, Lavern Smith, Betty Sommers, and one brother Wilson Dossey. On Februry 6, 2011 a private family service was held at Highland Memorial Park in Ocala. All friends who wish to remember Hubert may do so with a donation to First Baptist Church of Ocala Building Fund, 2801 SE Maricamp Rd, Ocala, Florida 34471.
