LOUIS LEGRIEL, 85
Morehead City, NC - Louis Legriel Chazal, 85, died Monday, December 10, 2012, at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City.
According to his wishes, a graveside service for family will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, 1400 NE 3rd Street, Ocala, FL, 34470 on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 12:00 Noon with Father Patrick Sheedy officiating; followed by a reception hosted by his son and daughter for family and friends at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church Community Center at 1:00 PM.
Mr. Chazal was born on June 12, 1927, in Ocala, FL, to John Philip Chazal, Sr. and Dorothy Otis Brooks. In addition to his parents, his brother, John P. Chazal, Jr., preceded him in death.
He lived most of his life in Ocala, attending Trinity Academy and Ocala High School. After brief service in the Coast Guard he studied at the University of Florida and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering in 1950. The following year he and his brother John started Hurricane Batteries, where he continued to work until his retirement in 2011.
He was a devoted Catholic and life-long member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, where he served as President of the Parish Council, head of the youth group, and lector.
He was very athletic and a big sports fan. In his youth he participated in baseball, basketball, football, and track and field. In later years he was active in tennis, golf and softball. He was a particularly avid fan of Florida Gator athletics, attending many Florida Relays track and field meets over the years and holding season football tickets for over forty years.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Chazal of Morehead City, NC; daughter, Anne Cole Chazal of Richmond, VA; son, John Philip Chazal, III and wife, Dr. Nicole M. D'Andrea of Morehead City, NC; sisters, Betty B. Chazal of Ocala, Dorrie Platte of Augusta, GA; brother, Peter A. Chazal and wife, Mae of Ocala; grandchildren, Yvonne, Natalie and Vanessa Chazal of Morehead City, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the , 2418 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 206, Raleigh, NC 27607 or Carteret General Hospital Foundation, P.O. Drawer 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557.
