Fort McCoy - Dionne DeVeaux, 58, passed away on February 22, 2013 at the VA Hospital in Gainesville.
Born March 13, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA, she moved to Fort McCoy area in 2007. She received her Bachelor of Science in 1980 from the University of Baltimore. She served honorably in the U.S. Army Women Corp from 1973 to 1977 and was stationed in Germany. She spent the next 18 years as an Amtrak Police Officer for the State of Pennsylvania. She was a Veteran of Am Vets Post 19 in Fort Mc Coy and was the Commander from 2012 -2013 and held past positions of First Vice and Chaplin.
She is survived by her sisters, Christen Barnett (Brent) of Jacksonville; Arlene L McArdle of Philadelphia, Pa.; her nieces Karen M. Archer, Natalie Archer Douglas of Philadelphia, Pa.; her nephews Craig Barnett, of Jacksonville; Jason Barnett (Andea), of Yulee; great nephews Dakota Adams, Cameron Jones, great niece Bailey Seebeck of Yulee; cousin, Susan Natale of Stratford, N.J; her police partner and friend Ralph Tholstrup of Elkton, Md.; her adopted family, Lois and Terry Hanshaw of Fort Mc Coy; Gavin Hanshaw of Tampa; Toni Rowe (Larry) of Laughlin, N.V.; Tiffany Teachout de Villalva (Julio) Vero Beach and her adopted daughters, Maggie Muzue (Michael), Donna Caldwell of Philadelphia, Pa. and her dogs, Davey, Jessie, Sam, Noodles, Mandy and her horse Dictator and her friends.
A memorial for her will be held on March 16, 2013 at the Am Vets Post 19 in Fort McCoy at 12:30 PM. Interment is at the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell on March 18, 2013 at 11 AM.
