Dowling Park, FL - David E. Carter passed away March 15, 2013. He was born August 19, 1923 in Oswego, NY where he grew up on the shores of Lake Ontario.
Dave graduated from Cornell University's School of Civil Engineering and joined the Army/Air Corps in June, 1944. He served in Frankfurt, Germany with the Occupation Forces until he was honorably discharged on July 4, 1946.
Dave and Mary married on September 14, 1946 and spent the next 52 years in Elmira, N.Y., where they raised a family and he was employed as a Civil Engineer.
In 1998, Dave and Mary moved to Ocala (OTOW) to finally retire, and enjoyed many years and new friendships through the Ocala West Methodist Church.
Dave is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Mary Meter and three daughters, Martha Drake (Bruce) of Painted Post, NY, Joan Purdy (Rich) of Downingtown, PA and Marilyn Derksen (Rick) of Seattle, WA; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and brother-in-law, Warren Meter. Preceded in death by a son, Warren Carter in 2011.
A Memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Bixler Chapel at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, (386) 658-5344.
Dave asked to be remembered this way: "He loved the Lord, his wife and family and was happy with the life he had lived."
