Silver Springs - Captain William B. Butler, Jr., USMC (Ret.), 83, passed away on April 3, 2013.
Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, he had been a Florida resident for over 40 years.
Captain Butler served more than 20 years in the Marine Corps, served in Korea and Vietnam and was stationed in Cherry Point, NC, MCAS.
He enjoyed music, movies, history of the south and telling war stories.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, June H. Butler; daughter, Dr. Barbara Butler (James) Pemberton of Arkadelphia, AR; stepdaughter, Gail Gubbins of Silver Springs; five grandchildren, Lt. Cmdr. Patrick Pemberton, Rev. John Pemberton, Beck Pemberton, JD, Joy Gubbins, RN, Lt. Stephen Gubbins and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home Tuesday, April 9 at 3:00 pm with Chaplain Warren Thompson officiating.
Interment at Florida National Cemetery will take place Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Semper Fi Fund for the Marine Corps. Arrangements by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, Florida.
