RAYMOND A., 87
Orange Springs - Raymond A. Piantanida, 87, passed away April 1, 2013 in Gainesville, FL. Born in Hoboken, NJ on September 19, 1925, he joined the Navy at 17 serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Vicksburg during WWII.
He married Genevieve Kelly in 1946 and settled in Boynton Beach, FL where they started a family. Ray entered the home building trade and later created Boynton Engineering, a structural steel company. Genevieve passed away in 1962. He then married Patricia Gentile, adopting her son, Dean.
In 1972, the family moved to Cashiers, NC, attracted to the scenic mountains, friendly people and the simpler life; he then returned to building homes.
In 1975, he married Vivian Critchley with whom he enjoyed many memories and friends together, living for awhile on their sailboat The Ravian. Ray and Vivian moved to Orange Springs, FL in 2000 where he remained till his passing. His hobbies were flying, sailing, woodworking, playing the accordion and the trumpet.
Mr. Piantanida is survived by his children Marilyn Turner (L.S.), Ray Piantanida (Meri-Lin), Bob Piantanida (Alison), Dean Anthony (Patricia), Dawn Critchley and Sharon Critchley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 25th at Citra United Methodist Church in Citra, FL of which he was a member.
