Summerfield - Hugh D. Norton of Summerfield, FL, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and good friend to many, passed peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning, August 8, 2013. He was 82 years old.
Hugh was born in Mishawaka Indiana on August 6, 1931 to the late Ralph and Mary Norton. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; their 60th anniversary would have been August 15, 2013. Hugh is also survived by his children: Vicky Norton of TX, Cheryl Ohler of FL and Ralph Norton of FL; his four grandchildren: Stormi, Phillipe, Skylan and Braidon; his brother Dick Norton of AR; his sister Pat Dunning of IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Hugh was a retired school teacher here in Ocala. He taught at CFCC, CTAE and ARC. He was very passionate about four things: his family, his friends, his students and aviation. He was a licensed pilot and an aircraft inspector. He owned a private airport in Pedro, FL and enjoyed barn storming with his red and silver 1929 Bi-Wing Waco CSO or flying around in his red and white sun burst, J-3 Cub-clip wing.
Hugh also served as Park Manager at Six Gun Territory back in the late 60's and early 70's. He loved that park and had a lot of fun creating many of the sceneries and backdrops. Dad was very musical and those that knew him have heard his "Jake" songs; he loved to write his own music and enjoyed playing his guitar or banjo at gatherings.
Hugh was such a fun, talented, loving and creative man that he will be sorely missed. He was a great story teller and brought laughter into the room.
There will be a Celebration of Life memorial service Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 3pm to 6pm held at Jumbolair Aviation Estates, 1201 NE 77th St., Ocala, FL 34479. Flying in is welcome; to fly in please contact Jumbolair at 352-427-1820 to make necessary arrangements.
