Ocala - Matthew Ballman passed away on October 29, 2013 at Timber Ridge Rehabilitation Center.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Regina, of 61 years; his three daughters Sharon (Craig) Wolf of Chesapeake, VA, Janet (Bruce) Smith of San Diego, CA, Kathleen (Michael) Ives of Chesapeake, VA, and his son, Paul (Jan) of Monroe Township, NJ. He had eight grandchildren, (five grandsons and three granddaughters) and one great-granddaughter.
He was born in Newark, NJ, son of Paul and Amelia (Loeffler) Ballman. He attended St. Benedict's grammar school and graduated from Newark Vocational School.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942, and served on the seaplane tender, USS Rehoboth, for four years.
He married Regina (Miller) in 1952 and they moved to Monroe Township, NJ, where they resided for 32 years. He was employed by Kimberly-Clark for 30 years and retired in 1989.
In 1991, they moved to Oak Run, and enjoyed over 20 years of happy retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Angela S. Santos VFW Post 4781. He was a part of the Post Honor Guard, and attended over 350 funerals for deceased veterans.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 15th at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Hwy 200, at 12.00 Noon, Fr. Alex Panakal, OCD will be the celebrant.
Burial will follow immediately at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, with full military honors.
