Ocala - Alex D. Spivey, age 65, affectionately known as "Doc", of Ocala, FL passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. He was born in St. Petersburg, FL on May 9, 1948. Alex served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam Conflict. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star for wounds sustained during an ambush near Hue, South Vietnam. After his military service, Alex became a Radiologic Technician continuing his service to others. Alex was a generous man, always helping others in need.
He was preceded in death by his father Alex and brother Wayne. Alex is survived by his mother Mildred Spivey of Ft McCoy, FL; sister Shirley Simpson of Orange City, FL; brother Michael Spivey of Palm Bay, FL; nieces Tangela, Shelly, Laura and Kimberly; and nephews Jay and Michael; grandnephews Andrew and Henry; grandnieces Agatha, Ciara and Layla. Alex was much loved by his family, friends and community. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will take place at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 10am until 11am. A graveside service with military honors will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 12:30pm.
