Salt Springs - Diane Burkhalter, 57, went to heaven on March 27, 2014, at home in Salt Springs, Florida.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Salt Springs, Florida.
Diane was born on April 14, 1956, in Perry, Florida, to Benjamin J. and Ruby Lee (Beasley) Sundey. She attended Eighth Street Elementary in Ocala and graduated from Forest High School in 1975.
Diane and David Burkhalter have been together over 30 years and have been married for 27 of those years. They came to Salt Springs in 1990. Many people will remember Diane from the Frontier, which she and David owned. Others will remember her from a nail salon she owned in Keystone Heights called Bashful to Beautiful Nails, and a full-service salon she owned in Salt Springs called Hair Solutions for Ladies and Gents, where she worked until February 2013.
Diane enjoyed many hobbies, including flower and herb gardening. She enjoyed art and cooking, and anyone who ever sat at her table knows what a fantastic cook she was. She had the unique talent of making any house she lived in a home, and it was more than just beautiful - her home was always welcoming and warm. She was a very giving and caring person, which was very evident in her life by the time and resources she contributed to churches, the VFW and AMVETS in Salt Springs, as well as other area charities and individual people.
Diane's faith sustained her throughout her long battle with the illness which finally took her life, and that same faith helped her family cope with her loss. One of her favorite sayings was "God is good!"
She is survived by her husband, David Burkhalter of Salt Springs; sisters Mary Jones of Ocala, Jean Baggett of Fort Meade , Betty Sue Sundey of Salt Springs, and Darlene DuBose of Ocala; brothers Frank Sundey of Huntsville, Alabama, Jack Godwin of Lakeland, and Wallace Sundey of Lakeland. She is also survived by Bonnie and Rod Houldson of Green Cove Springs, and their children (Diane's grandchildren), Tayler, Faithe and Jerrod.
Diane was preceded in death by her mother Ruby Beasley Sundey, her father Benjamin J. Sundey, her sister Martha Powell, and her brother Andrew Jackson "Jackie" Sundey.
Arrangements are in the care of Countryside Funeral Home, Anthony, FL.
