Michael J. Martin

Michael James Martin, age 67 of Shawano, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Aurora Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 18, 1945 in Albion, MI, he was the son of the late Harold J. and Velma A. (Harris) Martin. After graduating from high school, Mike enlisted with the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War. On August 18, 1968 he was united in marriage to Barbara Dane in Albion, MI. After marriage the couple made their home in Florida where they raised their two children. 20 years ago they moved to Upper Michigan briefly before moving to Oconto in 1992. Barbara preceded Mike in death on December 16, 2004. In 2009 Mike moved to the Shawano area where he met Deborah A. (nee Hobbs) Maier and the two were married on March 27, 2009. Mike was a compassionate family man, charismatic, and funny with endless skills and talents that made him a Jack of all Trades. He was an avid gun enthusiast and proud supporter of the NRA. He loved nature, enjoyed being outdoors, and in his younger years enjoyed hunting and competition shooting. In his later years, he also enjoyed an occasional Jack Daniels on the rocks. He also enjoyed woodworking and loved his favorite dog, Sammy. Mike was a member of the Shawano American Legion Post #117 and former member of the Oconto American Legion Post #74.

Mike is survived by: his wife, Deborah; his daughter, Misty (Mark) Thompson of Madison, AL; his son, Michael "Mick" (Ronette) Martin of Bismarck, ND; 3 grandchildren, Rhenna, Kaleb, Aschton; 2 brothers, Max (Linda) of MI, Mark (Catalina) of IL; and a sister, Marie Martin of TN.

Private family services were held. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano assisted the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Mike's name to Operation Comfort Warriors by the American Legion at or to the .
