OELWEIN - Norbert J. Fettkether, 84, of Oelwein, died Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2013 at the Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, with Deacon Jim Patera officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in rural Oelwein.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday. Ross Reid American Legion Post 9 Honor Guard will conduct a military memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.

Norbert James Fettkether was born May 22, 1928 at Fairbank, Iowa, the son of Martin and Genevieve (Kolb) Fettkether. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Oelwein. Norbert was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army. He married Leah Clair Cline on Nov. 29, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Norbert retired as a press operator at Donaldson's Co. in Oelwein after many years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ross Reid American Legion Post 9 of Oelwein and has been a resident of the Grandview Health Care Center since December of 2012. Norbert enjoyed spending time with his family, his neighbors and doing yard work.
Norbert is survived by his 3 children, James Fettkether, Mary (Steve) Cherrier and David Fettkether, all of Oelwein; 3 grandchildren, Beth (Ben) Hesse, Brenda (Dustin) Bond and Nicole (Chris) Stern; 3 great grandchildren, Alex, Eric and Michael Bryan; a sister, Patricia (Al) Chidester of Evansdale and a brother, Harold (Agnes0 Fettkether of Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leah C. Fettkether on July 10, 2009, infant son Richard, infant daughter Marsha and 3 brothers Charles, Robert and Leon and a sister Mary Fettkether.
