OELWEIN - Jean R. Smith, 98, of Oelwein, died Sunday morning, June 21, 2020 at her home.
Funeral service will be 11?a.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Rick Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein.
Visitation will be 4-7?p.m. Wednesday, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and for one hour before the service at the church Thursday.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing will be required. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear a mask at the services. We encourage relatives and friends not able to attend the service to reach out to the family by leaving a message on the funeral home website, by mail, text or phone.

Jean Ruberta Fauser was born Sept. 15, 1921 at Fayette, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Ware) Fauser. She graduated from Stanley High School in 1938 and then graduated from a 2-year college course per correspondence on May 8, 1941 from the Citizens Institute of Training at Cleveland, Ohio. Jean married Merle Otis Smith on Aug. 2, 1941 at Kahoka, Missouri. She worked at a Quartermaster School at Camp Lee, Virginia as a CAF3 clerk stenographer, worked for six years at Iowa Finance Company in Oelwein, at George King Accounting as a bookkeeper, later as a secretary at Harlan Elementary in Oelwein, and was also the bookkeeper for Merle's Auto Service in Oelwein for 23 years retiring in 1985.
Jean was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Fine Arts Department of the Oelwein Federated Women's Club.
Jean is survived by her son: Dana (Diann) Smith of Oelwein; four grandchildren: Ian (Angie) Smith of Washington, Cody (Michelle) Smith of Washington, Dustin Smith of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota and Derek Smith of Oelwein; five great-grandchildren: Pheonix Smith, Domenik Smith, Alexander Smith, Darrin Smith and William Smith; brother-in-law: Virgil McClain of Oelwein; and a sister-in-law: Donna Fauser of Oelwein.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on July 21, 2013; son: Dennis Smith; granddaughter: Dr. Dawn Smith; five brothers: Arthur Fauser, Max Fauser, Ernie Fauser, Grover Fauser and Duane Fauser; and three sisters: Marjorie Simpson, Arlene Robinson and Patsy McClain.
