OELWEIN - Keith L. Oldfather, 84, of Oelwein, died suddenly Wednesday evening, May 23, 2012 at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein.

Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at the Volga United Methodist Church at Volga, with Pastor Lisa Schroeder officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery at Volga.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Keith LuVern Oldfather was born Dec. 6, 1927 at Dubuque, Iowa. His adopted parents were Frank and Ina (Wilbur) Oldfather. He attended the Volga school and later enlisted in the Navy serving during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Keith married Mary Lou Dugan Cummings on Oct. 20, 1979 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. He worked road construction for 28 years at Reilly Construction Co. of Ossian. Keith was a member of the Volga United Methodist Church. Keith's wife always came first and his love for his children and stepchildren. He loved his red and white 3-wheeler and his early morning coffee at the Country Cottage with his buddies.
Keith is survived by his wife Mary Lou Oldfather of Oelwein, 7 children and 11 stepchildren, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his adopted parents, a daughter Bette Imel, 3 stepchildren, Shirley Cummings, Ron Cummings and Gene Cummings, his brother Lynn Oldfather and sister Ethel Hubusch.
