PLAINFIELD - Kent Allen Morgan, 46, of rural Plainfield, died at his home Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014.
Kent was born Oct. 30, 1967, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of David L. and Phyllis Ann (Burrack) Morgan. Kent was baptized May 12, 1968, at St. John Lutheran Church, Arlington, and was confirmed Oct. 23, 1983, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Kent attended the Waverly school system, graduating in 1986 from Waverly-Shell Rock High School. Kent then attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls where he studied swine confinement management. He worked at Farmers Coop out of Readlyn and Shell Rock as an agronomy specialist for more than 20 years. He recently was working with 5 Star Cooperative in Nashua.
Kent was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, where he was currently serving on the church cemetery board. In his spare time, Kent enjoyed running 5ks, Chicago Cubs baseball, Black Hawk hockey, karaoke singing, but most of all spending time with his family, friends, and his special companions – his dogs, Cassie and Molly.
Kent is survived by his parents, Dave and Phyllis Morgan of Arlington; 2 sisters, Karen (Mark) Norton of rural Waverly and Karleen Retterath of Charles City. Kent is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews, Wendy (Leonard) Brase of Plainfield, Andy Norton (Emily Zovlek), Matt (Erin) Norton, Mitch (Jill) Norton, all of Waverly, Alicia (Zac) Soukup of Calmar, Cassie Martin of Waverly, Garrett Retterath of Nashua, several cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leon and Neva Morgan, Edwin and Mabel Burrack; his brother, Kevin Lee Morgan Jan. 27, 1987 and his sister, Kate Lynn Marie Morgan on Feb. 14, 1997.
Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Kent's body will be cremated following services and private family burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly at a later date.
Public visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to services Friday at the church.
