STRAWBERRY POINT - Dorothy May Stone Pettit, 69, of Strawberry Point died suddenly, Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the United Methodist Church in Strawberry Point with the Rev. Ron Blix officiating. Dorothy wished to be cremated so burial will be at a later date.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Roberson Funeral Home and also an hour before services at the church on Saturday.
Dorothy was born April 28, 1941 in Iowa City to Walter and Velma Jencks Stone. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School. She married Winford "Bill" Pettit Dec. 9, 1961 in Strawberry Point. She had worked as a nurse's aide at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home for 23 years. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Backbone Bluegrass Association. She loved her husband and family deeply plus her many friends. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, cooking and baking, shopping, garage sales and plants.
Survivors include her husband Bill; two daughters, Lisa (Stephen Cook) Timmerman of Strawberry Point, and Linda Hackman of Waterloo; and one son, Ladd (Laurie) Pettit of Cross Plains, Wis.; two sisters, Beverly MacTaggart of Strawberry Point and Darlene Sewell of Oelwein; and a sister-in-law Ava Stone of Strawberry Point; seven grandsons, Beau (Randi Burns) Timmerman, Chase (Olivia Harford) Timmerman, Lane Timmerman, Joseph Pettit, Derek Pettit, Sebastian Trimble, and Brandon Hackman; two granddaughters, Jordan Pettit and Alexis Trimble; two great-grandsons Noah Rodas-Timmerman, and Jagger Timmerman.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one brother Robert Stone; two brothers-in-law, John MacTaggart and Kenneth Sewell; and a daughter-in-law Barbara Voels Pettit.
