LAMONT - Willis Anthony Grundmeyer, 88, of Lamont, passed away peacefully Friday, March 29, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Tuesday April 2, 2013, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, with the Rev. Paul R. Peters officiating.
Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2013, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, with a Rosary at 3 p.m. and a 7 p.m. Military Service. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday one hour before mass at the church
Interment with Military Honors by Aurora-Palmer-Scharff American Legion Post #445: St. Albert's Catholic Cemetery, rural Lamont.
Willis was born May 8, 1924, in Raeville, Neb., son of Dorothy (Kurtenbach) and Anton Grundmeyer, the oldest of eight children. His early years were spent in Nebraska before moving to Iowa in 1937. Willis married Bernice Klein, Feb. 14, 1950, in St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Raeville, Nebraska. He was a proud veteran serving in the United States Army from 1945-1947. Willis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamont and currently he has been an active and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point.
He was a lifetime farmer in the Lamont and Aurora area and took great pride in straight rows. He was a member of the Palmer Scharff American Legion Post of Aurora and Knights of Columbus at St. Mary's in Strawberry Point. Willis also served on the FHA Board of Fayette County.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice, and eight children. Les (Christine) Grundmeyer of Aurora, Valerie Firth of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Alan (Kelly) Grundmeyer of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Vicki (Steve) Hurd of Cincinnati, Ohio, Gale Ghaffari, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Dean Grundmeyer of Arlington, Ann (Dr. Jon) Bevan of Overland Park, Kansas and Adele Grundmeyer of Burnsville, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren, Dr. Trent (Angela) Grundmeyer, Neil (Michaela) Grundmeyer; Dr. Kyle Grundmeyer, Drew Grundmeyer, Andrea Firth, Sara Firth, Stephen Firth, Brian Grundmeyer, Thomas Grundmeyer, Michael Hurd, Massoud Ghaffari, Michelle Ghaffari, Zach Ghaffari, Natalie Ghaffari, Alexis Bevan; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Faith, Truman Grundmeyer and Noah Martinez; brothers, Val (J.G.) Grundmeyer of Chula Vista California, Tony (Nancy) Grundmeyer of Waterloo and Jim (Janice) Grundmeyer of Masonville; sisters, Rita Thole of Oelwein, Dorothy Digman of Dyersville and Mary Ann (David) Puff of Dubuque and numerous nieces and nephews.
Willlis was Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Connie Grundmeyer; brother-in-law, Larry Thole and sister-in-law Pat Grundmeyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Arlington Fire Department and First Responders.
