OELWEIN - Andrew O. Hinze, 52, of Oelwein, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Oelwein Mercy Hospital.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at the church. The Geilenfeld Funeral Home of Oelwein is in charge of arrangements.
Andrew Hinze was born Dec. 30, 1960 in Oelwein, the son of James D. and Theodora (Ware) Hinze. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1980. Andrew was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He had worked as a laborer during his healthier years.
Andrew was the second heart transplant recipient at University Hospitals in Iowa City and the longest surviving heart transplant patient.
Survivors include his daughter Amanda (John) Baccarie of Shreveport, La., his son Allen Wilkenson of Pueblo, Colo.; two granddaughters; his mother Theodora; two brothers, Tracy Dean (Adela) Hinze Starcruiser of Waterloo and John L. Hinze of Oelwein; a sister Georgia Cashen of Rocky Ford, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister Andrea Wildebour.
A memorial fund has been established in Andrew's name.
