Marilee S. Creelan

Marilee S. Creelan, 67, of Lexington, died from a benign brain tumor on Friday, August 30, 2013.

Born July 20, 1946 in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Lawson and Wilma Mason. Marilee graduated from East Liverpool High School in Ohio, before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Purdue University. She received a master's degree in library science from Kent State University. After working at the Youngstown Public Library, Marilee was library director of Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. She was a volunteer with the National Alliance on Mental Illness, served on the Cuyahoga County drug board, volunteered at a women's shelter and was active at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Canton, Ohio. She also served as an officer of the Medical Library Association, and attended the International Conference of Medical Librarians in Tokyo in 1985. Later, Marilee was the director of collections at the Medical College of Georgia. She was active at the Episcopal Church of our Savior in Martinez, Ga. Continuing her education at The University of the South, Marilee earned a Master of Sacred Theology degree in 2008. She was an assistant professor and education and instruction librarian at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn. She was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Paris, Tenn. A volunteer at Community Table in Lexington, Marilee attended R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church.

Marilee is survived by her son, Joseph Creelan; sisters, Marjorie Page and Lizbeth Mahon; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness at nami.org or to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450. Arrangements are being handled by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
