Memories and Condolences
for Heath Warner

Not sure what to say?

God bless Heath and the Warner family. I came across Heaths grave while paying respect to others on this Vetrans day next to his site. I did not know Heath but his grave marker stopped me in my tracks. I have the same rare first name but I think a lot more than that made me stop and pay respect. I paid respect to him along with the other heroes at rest I came to visit. It's a small world, or divine intervention, what ever you want to call it. I surprisingly met his parents at a Gold Star Families retreat in Philadelphia. The Micael Strange Foundation. They spoke about him in front of the retreat and I perked up like I knew Heath. I later shared this story with them, I prayed with them and promised he will never be forgotten. Heath, thank you for serving our great country, you are still making an impact in peoples lives today. Your parents are great people. They honor you every day, are staying strong and have great extended family, Gold Star Family support.

April 29, 2015

I had the privilege of meeting Scott and Melissa at the fitness expo for The Hall of Fame Marathon this past weekend. I've seen Heath's Memorial marker on I-77 many times as I've passed through Canton while making deliveries in the area. Now I know something of the man named Heath. And I have seen the pictures of his brother Marines who were with him that fateful day. I remember the words of a Randy Travis song, "Three Wooden Crosses" "It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you. It's what you leave behind you when you go!" Heath is gone and leaves behind a loving family and friends who have carried on his life in the work they do in his name. Thank you Scott and Melissa for giving us your son to stand watch over us in life, and now in eternity. I wish I had met Heath! I'm glad I met both of you. God bless you and your family. Semper Fidelis!

God bless you for your bravery, dedication, service and sacrifice for our country. I am in awe of such a handsome young man with courage and wisdom beyond his years. May your family take a bit of comfort knowing you are all in my prayers (and that of many American citizens). Mere words cannot convey our appreciation for the gifts of your willingness to protect we who are strangers. I am proud to live in a land with such extraordinary young people. Your parents raised you beautifully and you have honored them as well as your country. My humble gratitude.

Mr and Mrs. Warner,
Just want to extend more sympathy for your loss. It was an honor serving on the funeral detail for your son when I was a young Marine. You do not know the amount of pain it caused laying another brother of mine to rest. I'm very happy to have moved back and seen the continued efforts in the community that you guys are taking. I hope one day to assist in those efforts... SEMPER FI!!!

Greetings from Colorado -

You may already know, but I wanted to visit and let you know that your son's gravestone is featured on the cover of the Sept 16th issue of The Weekly Standard, in regards to an article about military buglers. I also wanted to know more about this young man, and that led me here. Heath is not forgotten, nor are his brethren who made the final, ultimate sacrifice. God Bless and keep you!

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Warner Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

Recently read the book Gold Star Father by Scott Warner.
We came to know Heath as a loving son and a loving brother, a patriot, a hero, and a man who was deeply loved by all family members. We were very touched and came to know Heath thru the book and understand a small portion of the pain and loss experienced by mom, dad, the brothers, and extended family.
Thank you for writing the book. It was a fitting tribute to Heath.
Most Sincerely,

Read the book written by Heath's dad Scott and saw it as a fine tribute to a loving son, a strong patriot, a loving brother.
We see the loss and the pain and felt as if we entered into a portion of that most personal and very real pain and loss.
Excellent book. Scott, thanks for writing the book. I was touched.
Most Sincerely,
Bill Wendell

Dear Mr and Mrs Warner. I pray both of you, Chandler and Ashton are well. This Saturday past 26 May, I stopped by the Memorial Day flag display in Jackson Township with my family and learned that I had just missed you being there. While my family still lives in Massillon, I am in Quantico, Virginia now. You are all still thought of often. From time to time I make my way to Arlington to visit with Heath and other brother Marines. I took a picture the last time I was there. They are never forgotten and always honored. I pray it was a blessed Memorial Day. Semper Fidelis.

"Liquid Prayers"__(Author Unknown)
The tears flow freely down my cheek
Each drop a silent word to speak
Sometimes when it is too hard to pray
My tears know just the words to say...
I thank You, God, for tears that fall
I thank You, God, that You see them all
The words are silent, but they are there... Each one a silent, liquid prayer.

There is not a day that goes by that we don't think of you...Heath you remain in our hearts forever.
Your sacrifice was not in vain. We are so proud of you and the love you had for God, family and the USA.

Pvt. Warner. I just wanted to let you know that every day I relive your funeral. It was an honor to escort you and raise your casket onto the horse drwan carraige and then into the hurst for you to be taken off to your final resting at the Memorial. Because of men like you who worried little about yourself and so much for other people has allowed me to stay motivated in my military career and lifting your casket as a man just as young as you, I had to be pulled to the side as tears began to fall from my eyes hearing the stories your friends told about your attitude towards the military the love for your family and the love for your bothers in arms. God Bless you and Happy 235th birthday. I know all you great men up above watching over all us warfighters today are the reason we are safe and your sacrifice will never be forgotten by this marine who carried one of his brothers to rest in peace. Love you man and you remain in my heart every single day. Sgt. Gainer

I read the story of your son, Marine Private Heath D. Warner in the Pensacola, Florida News Journal on 9/16/2010. The story was about your trip to Arlington National Cemetary to confirm that it is your son buried there.
I saved the article because I wanted to send it to you. I also wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your son as a patriotic American.
I appreciate his love of America. I will never forget his ultimate sacrifice.

Scott and Melissa, my heart breaks for you both and for your sons Chandler and Ashton. May your special memories comfort you.

Your son did something so endearing and special for me (a 60 year-old retired RN), something that I cannot do for my own loved ones. He did for me!

Marine Private Heath D. Warner fought for freedom and a good life for my grandchildren, Kristen and Brandie.

I honor all military by flying the American Flag at my home with a spotlight on it at night. My grandkids are taught to approach a person in uniform or a veteran and tell them a simple "thankyou for your service."

I am so sorry for your loss. I am honored to read about your wonderful son.
God Bless you all. Margie Jacoby

We'ver never met but your sons card has been in my bible for 2 years now. I met your dad as he visited our church and he had words of encouragement for me concerning my grandson. It touched my heart so deeply I cant even explain it. When I heard of this run I was excited to think I could finally give back just a little. Your father suggested I phone you because he thought you could help me. Of course I never did but hopefully will meet you both someday. Thank you to your entire family. God Bless you all.

Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose and deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones, and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family.

Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my Country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.

If I am inclined to doubt, steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again.

Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer.

Dear Warner Family,
I am reading this nearly four years later and would like to express my deepest sympathy. We have another saint in heaven to help us in our quest for freedom. Along with the many heroes from many wars in the U.S.,
I am praying that they help us to end this war and keep peace in the U.S. I have my youngest son in Afghanistan now and my youngest daughter was in Iraq. One of her soldiers from her group died. SGT. Michael Barkey. A playground was named after him at St. Phillip and James Church in Canal Fulton, Ohio. He was to be the best man in our second cousin's wedding He was the groom's best friend and they printed a tribute to him in their wedding pamplets at the church.

There is an open gate at the end of the road.
Through which each must go alone.
And there, in a light we cannot see,
Our Father claims HIS own.
Beyond the gate your loved one finds happiness and rest, and there is comfort in the thought that a Loving God knows best.
(unknown)
Thank you Heath for your sacrifice for us all. Rest in the Loving Arms of Our Lord. We don't ever forget!

December 21, 2009

REMEMBER ME
To the living, I am gone.
To the sorrowful, I will never return.
To the angry, I was cheated.
But to the happy, I am at peace,
and to the faithful I have never left.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore,
gazing at a beautful ocean---remember me.
As you look in awe at a mighty forest and its majesty---remember me.
As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity---remember me..
Remember me in your heart, your thoughts, and memories of the times we loved, the times we cried, the times we fought, the times we laughed.
For if you always thhink of me, I will never be gone.
(unknown)
I AM WITH YOU STILL
I give you this one thought to keep
I am with you still--do not weep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone--I am with you still--in each new dawn.
So do not mourn for me so long,
because My spirit lives forever within your hearts.

Anniversary dates seem alost daily for combat veterans. We combat veterans of Vietnam have 40 or so years of anniversary dates, but I don't think all of them rolled up together would even be 1% of this devastating anniversary date for your family.

As I've worn Heath's memory band since June 8, 2008, I've had to ask for one replacement to have that symbol of sacrifice, ultimate sacrifice a soldier makes when he or she takes the oath and basically writes a blank check to his or her country, saying take some or all, because I'm here to serve and protect freedom.

As Melissa, with courage and character, stood and spoke at another fallen soldier's memorial ceremony, 1st Lt. Sharon Ann Lane, ANC, KIA Vietnam, June 8, 1969, I was sitting and thinking how anyone can question a person's decision to serve and die for freedom rather than live not free and protect the freedom of family and of strangers.

It seemed Melissa and Scott were speaking for and with Heath to serve as examples for continuing living freedom that makes them voices for Heath's continuing contribution, to live, love, and improve, getting better each day, making progress each day.

All of us who manage survivor guilt know it can be an awful stressor, but becoming a voice, a model, an example for those who have ultimately served can help, in just being thankful for the daily small things we can do but couldn't do without freedom. I think they are proud when we make the day better and enjoy those around us in daily things that build and improve.

Heath's spirit and life came from a rare breed of individuals, Scott and Melissa and their families who seemingly helped nuture Heath to understand that life is temporary but spirit is eternal, to find a passion in life and serve it so that others are better and grow to serve, sacrifice, and enjoy each other's life and unspoken but obvious passion for freedom of mind, body, and spirit through faith, hope, and love.

In thought and prayer and giving thanks.

I can't believe it's been four years since Heath graduated from boot camp. We were all so proud and excited to watch him graduate from boot camp. Little did we know then that you would die as a hero almost a year from your graduation. Today I remember fondly the smiles, hugs, photos, new dress blue uniforms and your coming home for Thanksgiving. I am and will always be so proud of you Heath. The poem below is sort of a tradition that I am going to post every November 18.

Heath, My Son

Graduation from Boot Camp (November 18, 2005)

I get to see my son today,It’s four months since he has gone away, He’s different now, he’s not all mine, He’s a U.S. Marine, the finest kind. The little boy that I once newHas now become a man that’s true,He loves and hurts like you and meBut now he doesn’t let me see. He’s brave, tougher, smarter too,But remember my son…I still need you.I need to know your well and fine, and Hear you laugh from time to time, or Shed a tear or rant and rave…You don’t always have to be so brave. So take God’s hand he’ll lead the way He’ll keep you safe each day I pray, You’ll walk with him where heroes tread,But don’t feel dread, feel blessed instead You have the love all around,So make it right, your judgments sound. A man you are…But my son you’ll be,Forever and eternity. Love, Mom A special poem from Melissa to Heath at boot camp graduation. Author-Anonymous

Thinking of you today and remembering fondly your bootcamp graduation which was two years ago today. We love you and miss. Our heats ache every day but the love doesn't end. Remembering fondly your special day.

Yesterday was our day, Veterans Day. After work I came over to the Ohio Fallen Hero Memorial. I took the time to view every Soldier Memorial. I then drove over to Forest Lawn Garden Memorial Cemetery, this is where the Medal of Honor Memorial is. When I got there I met a mother that was visiting in Honor of her son who was on the wall, he died in 2000. We spoke for about 45 min. about her son, also of the brave men and women that had given there lifes sense 911. After she was gone I stood there among all those Heroes and thanked God that we had all you heroes in our Military. Life is a wonderful gift and that gift you gave to Amercia, I want to thank you Heath and your family for my gift of Freedom

"TO A GOLD STAR MOTHER”
There’s a land where the birds are singing...
and the skies are always blue...
On the other side of the rainbow
where your soldier waits for you...
Safe at last from the sins of mankind
and ravages of war...
On the other side of the rainbow
is the son that you adore...
In his eyes is the light of Heaven... on
his face is the same loved smile... on
the other side of the rainbow...
where he’ll greet you in a while.
