Webner, Agnes (Neal) - Columbus
Agnes (Neal) Webner Agnes (Neal) Webner, 85, died peacefully on March 27, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, which is what she would have wanted. Mrs. Webner was born in Akron, Ohio on March 20, 1930, the oldest child of Gilbert and Maude Neal and a devoted sister to her younger brother, Gilbert. She was a graduate of the Old Trail School in Akron, Mount Vernon College for Women in Washington, D.C., and the University of Akron. After a long courtship she married James R. Webner on July 31, 1955. Although she worked for a time as a teacher, she soon found her true calling as a doting mother of five children and grandmother of eleven -- one who loved nothing more than the laughter of children and the company of her family. Mrs. Webner and her family moved from Akron to Columbus in 1971, where Mr. Webner worked as the manager of the Graham Ford automobile dealership. After Mr. Webner's retirement they lived for a number of years at the couple's condo in Stuart, Florida, before Mrs. Webner moved back to Columbus after his death in 1997. She was a kind-hearted person, relentlessly positive, whose words of support and acts of generosity touched the lives of many. She was a passionate fan of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State football who hosted legendary parties before and after Buckeye home games. She also had an encyclopedic memory of musicals, comedies, and swashbuckling dramas and the stars of Hollywood of the '40s, '50s, and '60s. Mrs. Webner was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Webner; her parents, Gilbert and Maude Neal; her brother, Gilbert H. Neal, and her granddaughter, Katie Hartnett. She is survived by her children, James R. Webner II, Robert N. Webner and his wife Kish, Cathy Hartnett and her husband Alec, Margaret Hartnett and her husband Chris, and Jean Frank and her husband Mark; grandchildren, Joseph Hartnett and his wife Laura, Richard Webner, W. Russell Webner, Amy Hartnett, Daniel Hartnett, Brittany Hartnett, Andrew Hartnett, Michelina Agnes Frank, Olivia Marie Frank, and Zachary James Frank; and her brother and sister-in-law, W. Mack and Corinne Webner. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the O.R. WOODYARD CO. NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 2990 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Senior Independence Home Care, a wonderful hospice organization that helped Mrs. Webner and her family in her final days. The family also wishes to thank the staff at the Mayfair Village Retirement Community for their caring attention to Mrs. Webner in her later years.
