A. Richard "Dick" Brindley
BARBERTON -- A. Richard "Dick" Brindley, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at the age of 90.
He was born December 5, 1923 in the old Barberton Hospital on Wooster Road and was raised on the east side. Dick was a graduate of Barberton High School, Class of 1941. He began his college career at The Ohio State University
and finished it at The University of Akron where he was a charter organizer of the TKE chapter. This is where he met his wife, June. His education was interrupted by World War II
, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He proudly served in the 97th Trident Infantry Division in both the European and Pacific Theatres.
Dick served the Barberton School System from 1950 to 1982 as a teacher, guidance counselor and Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Special/Federal Programs. He was a long-time member of Barberton First Presbyterian Church and also a member of the Rotary Club
of Barberton beginning in the mid-sixties. He was deeply committed to the betterment of Barberton and served his community and city in many capacities.
Richard was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing his delicious produce with family, friends and neighbors.
Preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mae Brindley; and sister, Elizabeth Louise; survived by his wife, of 64 years, June; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Brown; daughter, Kimberly; cousin, Bob Critchfield; along with many dear friends.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pleasant View Health Care Center for their wonderful care and support that Richard and his family received.
Following his wishes there will be no callings hours. A private service will be held for the family. Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park with military honors conducted by Firestone VFW
