Alden L. Beckett

Alden L. Beckett, 92, passed away at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, Monroe, Ohio, on February 10, 2013.

Alden, whose family and friends knew him as Al, was born in Jacobsburg, Ohio on August 18, 1920. He resided in Akron for nearly 48 years then relocated to Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in 2004.

Al proudly served in the United States Army and was a decorated veteran of World War II. He retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in 1983 after 42 years of service. He was also a member of Mount Akra Masonic Lodge 680 in Akron, Ohio.

Al was an avid golfer and a member of Firestone Country Club. One of his most distinguished accomplishments was scoring a hole-in-one on #12 in 1964. His other interests included gardening, reading, and especially spending time with his family.

Al was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Edna (McGaughy) Beckett; son, Gary Beckett; brother, Robert Caldwell; and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Beckett. He is survived by his son, Richard Beckett; daughter-in-law, Joyce Beckett; sister-in-law, Virginia Caldwell; grandchildren, John Beckett, Tracy (Christopher) Johnson, Shannon (Joey) Wanderski, Stephanie (Glen) Steinbrunner, Steve (Jessica) Beckett; and great-grand-children, Ben, Sam, Josh, Jake, Brandon, Alexandra, Bryce, and Blake.

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd., on Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, with a Masonic service provided by Mount Akra Lodge 680 beginning at 12 noon, followed by a funeral service with Rev. Dr. Vicki Hillman-Breckner officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Mount Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, OH 45050 or Senior Independence, 9600 Colerain Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45251.
