Alex Basarab Jr.

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- Alex Basarab, Jr., 89, passed away on March 25, 2013.

He was born in the small mining town of Banning, Pa., to Czech immigrants, Alex and Anna Basarab.

Alex is survived by his son, Dennis Basarab; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Basarab; and three grandchildren, Erik, Michelle and Phillip Basarab of Medina, Ohio. He is also survived by his adopted son, Alex Basarab Jr., of Palm Bay, Fla.; and stepdaughter, Joyce Nelsen, of Grand Junction, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy J. Basarab; second wife, Candace Basarab; brothers, John, George and Tom Basarab; sister, Helen B. Fry; and many nieces and nephews.

Alex served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He worked at General Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio for 29 years prior to retirement. He then worked at Melbourne Golf Course and retired from there after 11 years. Alex loved playing golf, fishing and living life to it's fullest. He was a Christian and a believer in Jesus Christ.
