Alexandra M. (Sandy Murphy) Ziegman
AKRON -- Alexandra M. (Sandy Murphy) Ziegman, age 67, of Akron, passed away very peacefully on April 28, 2014, at Akron City Hospital.
Sandy was born on January 21, 1947, in Horing, Austria, the daughter of Pajo and Katharina (Netzthaler) Ninkovic. She was united in marriage to Bill Ziegman on February 14, 1998, in Akron. He survives.
She received her bachelor's degree in psychology from The Ohio State University
, and her master's degree in psychology from Boston University. She had been employed as a case manager for the Summit County Board of Mental Health & Mental Retardation for 25 years, until her retirement in 1998.
She was a member of the St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Akron. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, swimming, boating, and the Cleveland Indians. Sandy was also a 16 year ovarian cancer survivor.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by two sons, Vohn (Erika) Murphy of Akron and Shane (Lyndsi) Murphy of Hudson; daughter, Aleka (Jeff) Johnson of Stow; three stepsons; three stepdaughters; wonderful "Nana" to 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred (Joe) Potochar of Cleveland; and a nephew, Dr. Antimo Paul Gazzillo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio. There will be no calling hours.
