Allan L. Baker

Allan L. Baker, of Jacksonville, Fla., was greeted by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 12, 2014 two days after his 75th birthday.

Allan was born to Pauline Jones Baker and Jerel Austin Baker in Akron, Ohio. He was pre-deceased by both parents; brother, James Austin Baker; and stepfather, William E. Miller.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lillian M. (Fowler) Baker; son, David A. Baker (Lynita); and daughter, Becky Bui (Trac), all of Jacksonville; as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers, Conrad Baker (Akron, Ohio) and David E. Baker (Converse, Texas); sisters, Jerelsue Duckworth (Philippi, W. Va.) and Judy Miller Cross.

Allan played football, basketball, ran track, and played in the band at Tallmadge High School, Tallmadge, Ohio in the '50's. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1965. He met and married his wife in St. Johns, New Foundland, Canada while serving in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Wasp, USS Independence as well as the USS Forrestal, where he was a member of the boxing team. He and his family moved to Jacksonville in 1964. As his children grew older, Al's family became known throughout southern Georgia and northern Florida as the Singing Baker Family, glorifying and praising God with Gospel music.

Services were held on February 18, 2014 at the Evangel Temple Assembly of God, Jacksonville, Pastor Garry Wiggins officiating. Interment was at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
