Clifford L. Davis, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from a broken heart.
Cliff was born January 4, 1923 in Mount Erie, Illinois to the late Madison C. and Hazel I. Davis, moving to Akron at age three. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1940 and attended The University of Akron while starting his 43 year career at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Cliff enlisted in the U.S. Navy
in 1942. As a Radio Man he spent 22 months overseas during World War II, serving time on the Destroyer DD837, U.S.S. Sarsfield. Cliff was honorably discharged and returned to work at Firestone, where he retired in 1984 as manager of the Real Estate department and Assistant Secretary of the company. He was married to his beautiful wife, Ruth, on September 5, 1947. Cliff attended The University of Akron, receiving his B.S.B.A. in 1948. He went on to earn his Law Degree, graduating from The University of Akron's first law class in 1960. He was a member of the Ohio State and Florida State Bar Associations. Cliff was an avid golfer and enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling. Golf first, he was an "addict" and had all the latest equipment. His favorite dances were the Tango, East Coast Swing, and the Jitterbug. Cliff was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, Mt. Akra 680, F. & A. M., Firestone Park United Methodist Church, Firestone Retirees, a former Firestone Country Club member, and participated in the Honor Flight for local veterans. Cliff possessed the gift of gab and made quite an impression on everyone he met. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, the BEST!
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth Lucille Davis, 11 weeks ago; Cliff is survived by his daughters, Rebecca I. (Kenneth) Walters and Elizabeth A. (Denny) Hudkins; granddaughters, Nicole E. (Nate) Kohari and Caitlin R. Hudkins; brother-in-law, Richard (Doris) Korom; sister-in-law, Eva Louise (the late Robert) Stimler; many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends; three grand dogs and two great grand dogs; the guys at McDonald's, the Italian and Arizona bunches, the dancing group, and his golf buddies. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald E. Davis (killed on Iwo Jima 1945, USMC) and Robert E. Davis (age four).

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Firestone Park United Methodist Church, 250 N. Firestone Blvd., Akron, OH 44301, Rev. Patricia Christ officiating. Visitation with the family will begin prior to the service at 10 a.m. Cliff has given in death for those in life by donating his body for medical education and research. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Firestone Park United Methodist Church.
