Donald W. Hammett Sr.

Donald W. Hammett, Sr., passed away December 21, 2012, he was 81 years young, leaving behind his wife of 41 years, Joan (nee Shaffer).

He was the devoted father of Stephen (Marianne) Bier, James (Holly) Bier, Donald Jr. (Chrissy) Hammett and Jane Hammett; he was the loving grandfather of Christopher and Allison Bier, Elizabeth and William Hammett; and great- grandfather of Hunter; he was the dear brother of Clifford Hammett, Claire (Marvin) Chrisp, Margaret Dunaway, and Linda Ramnytz; and uncle of many.

Don was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was a retired math and astronomy teacher and coached track and cross country for 23 years at Firestone High School. He enjoyed hunting, ballroom dancing, Pepsi and candy bars, and bragging about his children and grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 28, at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME, 3653 W. Market St., Fairlawn, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
