Henry Dumas Adams
Henry Dumas Adams, descendent of Henry Adams The Exoduster passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 while in the comfort of family.
Mr. Adams was born in Wichita, Kansas and was raised in Boley (Indian Territory) Oklahoma. He attended Clark University in Atlanta, Georgia and served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
stationed in the pacific. He migrated to Akron after the war and was employed by Goodyear Aerospace Corporation, Cleveland Veterans hospital and the United States Postal Service from which he retired. He was a past President of the Akron Postal Workers Union, Creator and Editor of Akron's first black newspaper, The Akronite, and a member and past Commander of American Legion John Fulton Post 272.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents, Mary D. and Henry W. Adams; brother, Lt. Colonel Maseo A. Adams and wife, Daisy Decatur. Mr. Adams is survived by his children, Michael (Gayle) Adams, Debbie (Kevin) Jones, Alma T. Lee, and Kevin Nigel (Andrea) Adams, eight grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Reverend Dr. Ronald J. Fowler officiating, Interment Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery in Rittman Ohio. Friends may call at the chapel from 5:30 p.m. until time of service.
