Joan Louise Bowers

Joan Louise Bowers, 83, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Akron City Hospital with her brother and sister at her side.

Joan was born March 18, 1930 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to parents Harry and Clara (Conaway) Bowers. Joan was a registered nurse and enjoyed a long career at St. Luke's Hospital, The Red Cross, Brentwood, Parma, and Mt. Sinai Hospitals. Post-retirement, Joan continued her nursing career at the Danbury Independent Retirement Community. Joan was a member of Tallmadge United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, her cats, and spending time with her friends and family.

She will be sadly missed and remembered lovingly by her sister, Marilyn (Gerald) Polcen; brother, Martin Bowers; nephews, Jerry (Marsha Reece) Polcen Jr., Mike Polcen, Rick (Monica) Polcen; nieces, Tracey (Tony) King, Dora Bowers, Susan (Jon) Goldstein; four great nephews, Russell Bowers, Robert (Lindsay) Polcen, Nick Polcen, Jake Polcen; great niece, Kristina Polcen and great-great niece, Liliana Polcen. Joan also leaves behind her cherished friends from the "All But 6" gang. Besides her parents Joan was preceded in death by her beloved friend, Ruth Bambrick; and sister-in-law, Peggy S. Bowers.

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the Palliative Care Unit at Akron City Hospital for their care and compassion. She spent her last days in comfort, sipping Manhattan cocktails surrounded by family and friends. Joan's brother Marty would also like to send a special thanks to MaryAnn Day.

Family will receive friends FRIDAY, JAN. 10, 2014 FROM 4 TO 8 P.M. AT THE BLESSING FUNERAL HOME, 8592 DARROW RD. (ONE HALF MILE S. OF I-480 RT.91 EXIT) where services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11th at 11 A.M. Interment Crown Hill Cemetery.
