John Joseph "Joe" Brown

John Joseph Brown "Joe", 69, of Ft. Myers, Fla., succumbed to lung cancer at home on Saturday, June 1, 2013 in Ft. Myers, Fla.

He was born May 20, 1944 to Robert and Harriet Brown in Akron, Ohio. Joe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during Vietnam. He was a talented craftsman, both with woodcraft and rebuilding cars. He enjoyed everything about cars; watching and attending NASCAR races, classic car auctions, and collecting scale die cast muscle cars. He will be remembered for his generosity, unforgettable charm, and sense of humor. Through the grace of God, and strength of will, Joe survived long enough to see the birth of his granddaughter, Kassie, and hold her in his arms.

Joe's survivors include his son, John (Amy) Brown of Sebring, Fla.; his daughter, Rebecca (Steven) Smelko of Kent; and stepson, James Leverton of Rootstown; grandchildren, Brittany, Bonnie, Kaylee, Dawson, and Kassie; other relatives and friends.

Joe will be interred at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Hope Healthcare Services, Ft. Myers, Fla. (855) 454-3104.
