John Macklon Mathews

John Macklon Mathews, 65, went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born in Monticello, La. and moved to Ohio when he was 13 years old and lived in Brimfield for 45 years. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, retired from General Motors Lordstown Division after 39+ years, proud member of the NRA and was a lifetime entrepreneur. He also worked as an licensed auctioneer and was an active member of the Brimfield Church of God. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to everyone he met.

John is reunited in heaven with his parents, Lonzy and Lula B Mathews, daughter, Josie and many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart, wife and life partner of 47 years, Pandora; children, Penny Ann Chasar, Lisa Hylton, John Mathews II and Angela Mathews; ten grandchildren; brothers, AJ, CT and Donnie Joe; sisters, Judy, Joan and Sharon, special nephew, Jeff Guise; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., Akron, OH 44319 (SR 619) with Pastor James Walden officiating. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, from 12 to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Lakewood Cemetery.
