DOYLESTOWN -- Joseph W. Barr, age 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, November 18, 2012.
Born on February 6, 1938 in Cleveland to Harry E. and Ursula (Tepatti) Barr, he was a resident of Doylestown for 13 years, and previously of Bedford. Joe retired from the Walton Hills Police Department with 13 years of service as Chief of Police, and had been employed with the Bedford Police Department for 28 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
, and a Doylestown Village Councilman for over eight years. Joe was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, past Master of Summit Lodge 213 F&AM, Doylestown Lions Club, Doylestown American Legion #407, and F.O.P. George Murray Lodge #67.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harry A. Barr, he is survived by his wife of 11 years, Betty; children, Richard T. (Mary) Barr of Ravenna Twp., Kathleen R. (John) Bodnar of Bedford, Timothy J. (Jessie) Barr of Kent; grandchildren, Deklan I. and Duncan J. Barr; sisters, Nina Hall of Willoughby Hills, Susan (Pat) Williams of Avon Lake; first wife, Patricia; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 16 Eastern Rd., Doylestown, OH 44230, Rev. Jeff Nelson officiating. Burial will take place at the church cemetery with military honors. Friends and family may call TONIGHT from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Zak-Thacker & Monbarren Funeral Home, 132 N. Portage St., Doylestown, and one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
