TALLMADGE -- Mike Lampers, 79, passed away on February 10, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.
The son of Nick and Antonia Lampers and the brother of Andrew (Norma) and Theodore, Mike was born on January 14, 1935 in the village of Vovikes on the Greek island of Kefalonia. Raised in Akron, Ohio, Mike was a graduate of Hower High School, where he was an All City basketball player, and The University of Akron, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha and Charter President of The Society for the Advancement of Management. He also served in the U.S. Army and did his graduate work at Indiana University
before returning to Ohio, eventually becoming Comptroller and Vice President of Saalfield Publishing, and later a successful entrepreneur. Mike settled in Tallmadge, where he lived for 50 years and became a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. Mike loved his family, old movies, working in his expansive and meticulously cared for yard, playing and watching sports, and traveling the world with his family. He was a master storyteller, a jazz aficionado, and a delight in the eyes of every child who ever met him. Mike was very proud of his Greek heritage and carried with him a love of history all his life. He was also a generous man who is remembered by friends and family for always giving of himself and sharing his good fortune with all.
Mike is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly Lampers; his daughter and son-in-law, Leann and Jeff Smith; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Patricia Lampers; and his two grandsons, Parker and Grant Smith, who brought him endless joy right up until the very end. He is also survived by more cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends than could ever be counted, all of whom were loved and appreciated.
