Russell L. Mazzola

Russell L. Mazzola, 90 years old, went to be in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 27, 2013. He passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his family.

He was born and lived in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from North High School he served in the Army during World War II. He went on to be a successful entrepreneur and businessman in Akron with many accomplishments as a builder (Home Builders Association), developer, and restaurant owner. His greatest accomplishment was his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Preceded in death by wife, Eva Ruth Walker Mazzola; parents, Charles and Josephine Mazzola; brothers, Joseph and John Mazzola; and grandson, Jonathan Zuravel; he is survived by sister, Casame Mazzola Isaac (Jim); sisters-in-law, Rosina D'Amico Mazzola (John) and Angela Lionetti Mazzola (Joseph); children, Marguerite Mazzola Harrah (Brock), Charles Mazzola (PattyLee), Diane Mazzola Alexander (Michael Waddle), Russell Mazzola (Deann), Laurie Mazzola Zuravel (Paul), Dan Mazzola (Barb), Michelle Mazzola Lowdermilk (Brian), Debbie Mazzola Hickin (Joe); twenty-five grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; first wife and mother of his children, Joan Beighey Mazzola Palmer; and friends. Special thanks for caregiving support by Jennifer, Avina, Angie, and Crossroads Hospice.

Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, August 30 at West Hill Baptist Church, 605 N. Revere Rd., Akron 44333. Private interment later at Western Reserve National Cemetery. Friends may call TODAY, 4 to 8 at the Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. in Fairlawn and one hour prior to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to West Hill Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
