Frank Bolek

America lost another member of its "Greatest Generation" when Frank Bolek, age 83, passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2008.

Born in Pittsburgh and raised in Canton, he was a proud graduate of Timken High School where in 1943 the school motto was "Enter to learn. Leave to serve." Frank enlisted in the Army Air Corps upon graduation and served in the South Pacific during World War II on a B-24 bomber. Frank attended The University of Akron as an Engineering major. A North Canton area resident since 1952, he enjoyed his career as an engineer for over 40 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Frank was most passionate in his love of family, friends, country and God.

Preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary, and his brother William, he is survived by and will be profoundly missed by his children, Claudia Bolek Weltman (Jeffrey), Matthew Bolek (Lynn), Kathleen Lafferty, Karen Nicholson (Patrick), Marie Bolek and Thomas Bolek (Donna); grandchildren, Richard, Rachel, Erik, Nathan and Olivia; and great-grandson, Darin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Fr. Ronald Klingler as Celebrant. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 627 McKinley Avenue NW, Canton, Ohio 44703.
