Kathleen Marie Olson Spencer

Kathleen Marie Olson Spencer, 90, of Marysville, formerly of Akron, died Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Carriage Court Assisted Living in Marysville.

A homemaker, she was also a social worker and associated with Traveler's Aid in Akron for ten years. She later managed a Mobile Meals center at the Mayflower Hotel for many years. She attended First Baptist Church in Marysville and was a longtime member of Riverside Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Akron where she played piano, served in children's ministries, including preschool committee, and attended Bible studies.

A 1941 graduate of Garfield High School, she received a bachelor's degree in 1945 from The University of Akron. She will be most remembered as a woman of deep Christian faith. She was lovingly devoted to her family and her church.

She was born July 18, 1923 in Akron to the late George and Gladys York Olson and was also predeceased in 2004 by her husband, Charles Vernon Spencer.

She is survived by a son, Rev. George (Laura) Spencer of Williamsport, Pa.; two daughters, Joyce (Rev. Peter) Hamilton of Marysville and Shirley (Steven) Eubanks of Ft. Worth, Texas; six grandchildren, Mark Spencer, Rebecca (Jonathan) Edney, John (Julie) Hamilton, Austin (Keely) Eubanks, Elizabeth Eubanks and Cody Eubanks; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, Lauren, Carli, Taelyn; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Her son-in-law, Rev. Peter Hamilton will officiate funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 15 at Underwood Funeral Home in Marysville, where the family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Funeral service will also be held 12 noon Friday, August 16, at Adams Mason Memorial Chapel, 791 East Market St., Akron, where the family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m., Rev. F. Nevin Wiest will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Akron. Memorial contributions may be made to the churches she attended in Marysville or Akron.
